August 7-?, 2013

Day 7 forward: Hoi An --- 296 km

  • Hoi An is awesome.  Living here for a few weeks!

Day 6: Quy Nhon --- 222 km

Days 4-5: Nha Trang --- 186 km
August 5-6, 2013
  • Paved mountain roads make for an easy, scenic, mostly downhill ride
  • The $7 all-day boat tour is a bargain that included an all-you-can-eat lunch and 1-2 hours of scuba
  • I love Texas ex-pats who IMPORT THEIR BEEF from America

Days 2-3: Da Lat --- 255 km + 138 km
August 3-4, 2013
  • "Highway" 27 turning out to be a dirt road made for a hella-long detour
  • Da Lat has a lot offer, so we stayed the night
  • Prenn Falls wasn't incredible, but much closer than Pongour Falls
  • Crazy House was just a bit creepy
  • The Linh Phuoc Pagoda was unexpectedly great (be sure to go inside the one at the very top)

Packing System, by Andrew Lum
--> Bag 1 - Dirty
--> Bag 2 - Questionable but pretty sure no one would notice if it smells
--> Bag 3 - Clean-ish

Day 1: Mui Ne --- 321 km
August 2, 2013
  • Wrong turn escalated into a 102 km "detour"
  • Traveller's diarrhea finally came
  • Andrew's bike's starter broke
  • I ran over someone's chicken
  • Still a ton of fun. Good news is: it can only get better from here!

Day 0: Saigon
August 1, 2013
  • Bike: 6,500,000 VND
  • New seat: 280,000 VND
  • New mirrors: free
  • New baggage rack: free
  • New poncho: free
  • New Vietnam guide book: free
  • New helmet at the end of the day: 350,000 VND
